It’s been a mad year so far with so much going on that I’ve lost track of where I’m up to in nearly every aspect of my life. One thing I haven’t forgotten though is that I really, really, really need a good vacation this year. I’ve worked so hard on my studies that I’m desperate to get away somewhere nice and sunny and hot.

I want a gorgeous sandy beach, a lovely hotel with big comfy beds, a crystal clear swimming pool with poolside bar and delicious food and drink on tap 24 hours a day. I’m thinking of somewhere a bit tropical, perhaps an Island resort well away from everything, with nothing to do and no hassle. I’ll be going with my boyfriend so I think he’d like somewhere that offers deep sea fishing, scuba-diving, wind-surfing and that sort of thing. You know what boys are like, they can’t sit still for more than ten minutes at a time.

I’ve been looking at some last minute all inclusive deals online and I’ve seen some unbelievable last minute deals available in places like Mexico, the Bahamas, the Caribbean and Turks and Caicos. I love all these places, especially Mexico on the Mayan Riviera with it’s beautiful sandy beaches and clear warm waters. I’ve got a bit of cash stashed away for a last minute deal and probably enough to treat us both to an all inclusive deal.

I love all inclusive, they’re truly the best kind of holiday for chilling out. The best thing of course is that once you’ve paid for your vacation, everything else is free :) (well sort of ) lol!

Cheddar Gorge has been attracting visitors and holiday makers since the idea of the British holiday really took off in the Victorian period. The area itself is beautiful, and the long, winding road that goes through it provides almost the perfect way to experience the gorge. The truly perfect way is to climb Jacob’s Ladder (stairs of natural rock, rather than the more divine version) and follow the path around the top of the cliffs to get an excellent view of the gorge and surrounding area. At the top of the watch tower at Jacob’s Ladder you can see 360 degrees around, looking down over the gorge and Mendip hills.

One of the main reasons that the area is so popular with those on Somerset holidays are the caves. These attract people from all over the country to come and take a look around them. The largest of the caves that are open to the public is Gough’s Cave. It travels ninety metres beneath the surface and stretches over two thousand one hundred metres from its entrance to the rear of the cave. Numerous chambers and large rock formations can be found inside, and the Cheddar Yeo, the largest underground river system in Britain, is located within it.

In Gough’s Cave only the first few caverns make up the show caves. After that they are closed to the public as they are too dangerous to allow access all the time. Some are very narrow and some are completely flooded with river water. Human remains were found in Gough’s Cave in 1903 and have been dated to around 7150 BC.

The other cave which attracts visitors to the gorge is Cox’s Cave, which is made up of seven small grottoes joined together by low archways of rock. In one section, minerals have been brought from the surface down into the caves and become part of the stalagmites there, changing their colours to black, green, and orange to white. This section of the cave is known as the Home of the Rainbow.

Going back to the surface, the area is part of the Cheddar Complex, a Site of Special Scientific Interest. There are many rare animals, birds and plants that are found in Cheddar Gorge, and there is an ongoing effort by both the National Trust, who own the North Cliff, and the Marquess of Bath’s Longleat Estate, who own the Southern Cliff, to protect them.

With all of this going on there, no matter what your family members are interested in, there’ll be something to fascinate and educate them on your family holidays with a trip to Cheddar Gorge.

Many people enjoy travelling and they look forward to it every year. This is an important part of many people’s life and saving for a trip creates excitement. Maybe your next trip is for a honeymoon or even a family vacation then it takes on a new meaning. You are already hearing the distant sounds and picturing the destination that is waiting for you. You look forward to the discoveries you will make or maybe repeat those events that you enjoyed so much that you are returning to.
It is thoughts like this that make us want to pack our bags and head to the airport. For some, the task of searching for that perfect get away can be daunting. Comparing flights to London or Japan can take time and packages and tours can be confusing. Some people have no intention of taking a tours and don’t care about special deals on adventures that are of no interest to them.

If you need help with your travel plans, a travel agent is the person who will sort through all the details and get down to just what you are looking for. A travel agent can put a smile on your face and make you one of those people who love to travel.

The island of Gran Canaria is part of the Canary Islands archipelago. Its name might lead you to think it’s a particularly large island in the group of islands it belongs to, but it’s actually only the third largest, with the largest being Tenerife, that also holds the capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It’s also the second most populated island in the archipelago, second only to Tenerife.

Gran Canaria has been settled since as early as 500 BC. Back then, the natives were known to worship dogs, hence its name, a lot like the Egyptian cult of Anubis. This is interesting, as the natives were often described as barbarians by the Spanish conquerors, but evidence shows that they were organized, literate and had a complex social and religious hierarchy. Of course, the Spanish glossed through all of this and simply marked them off as barbarians, much like they did with all people they encountered in their expansion.

But before the Spanish conquered the island, the French and the Portuguese made some attempts at building their own settlements in it. The latter actually had a claim to the island, but were reluctant to subjugate the natives by force, unlike the Spanish. They eventually let go of their claim and the Spanish were free to conquer the islands.

But there was never any actual dissidence against Spanish rule. In fact, the islands remained loyal to Spain despite several invasions by European and African peoples.

Nowadays, Gran Canaria is a major tourist hub. As the trade with the colonies dwindled, so did the economic importance of the Canary Islands. That is, until they were spotted for tourism. It’s now easy to find cheap holidays to Gran Canaria, as well as more high class options. The increase in tourism comes not only because of advertising, that’s as effective in word of mouth as it is by showing pictures of the amazing beaches in the island. It’s also because the regional authorities have invested in tourism, not only to make money, but also to increase the prestige of the island.

That’s why when you get a package for cheap Canaries Holidays from onthebeach, for example, you might expect somewhat dodgy facilities or below-par meals, but that’s rarely, if ever, the case. Everything in the Canaries has its hint of class, and the people are proud enough not to want to simply become a tourist trap. They realize that, after all, they do have to live there also.

We have all heard about the Minotaur and of the labyrinth in Crete. If you’re not sure what it is, it’s the source of two major myths: that of Dedalus and Icarus and of Theseus and the Minotaur.

In a nutshell, this is how they go. Daedalus constructed a huge labyrinth for the King of Crete to put the Minotaur in. This was a half man half bull creature born because of the wrath of the Gods at the King. Jealous because of Daedalus’ intelligence and success, the King eventually had the architect and his son, Icarus, trapped in the labyrinth with the vicious Minotaur. But Daedalus knew every corner or the labyrinth and was able to find a way out. On trying to escape the island he crafted two pairs of wings, made of feathers put together with wax. Deadalus made it out of the island just fine but Icarus, against his father’s advice, flew too close to the Sun, which melted his wings and made him fall into the ocean and die.

The story of Theseus tells the death of the Minotaur. The young Theseus is taken to the labyrinth to serve as a sacrifice to the monster. But because he wins the love of the Princess of Crete, she aids him in escaping the labyrinth, but not before killing the Minotaur.

These two myths have been the source and inspiration to many works of art and many books and poems. And what better way to see and feel the inspiration up close than to spend some holidays in Crete? Crete holidays may not be among the most famous, especially if we compare the island with more popular islands in the Mediterranean Sea, like Ibiza and Santorini. But it’s well worth it, as Crete is one of the best kept secrets of the Mediterranean Sea.

Finding cheap holidays in Greece, and in particular in Crete, isn’t something that people find easy. You do need to look around quite a lot. And this is in part due to the fact that the Greeks themselves travel quite a lot along their country and especially to their islands and they take most of the cheap deals right away. Using a website like dealchecker.co.uk for cheap holidays is the best choice in this case, as you’ll be able to look into flights and hotel bookings, but also package deals and cheap options for your stay.

Travelling around with your family can be difficult, and taking a family holiday that doesn’t end up with the kids screaming at each other, the parents screaming at the kids and anybody else who happens to be coming along aghast at how everybody else is behaving requires a lot of planning and forethought.

Travelling around with your family can be difficult, and taking a family holiday that doesn’t end up with the kids screaming at each other, the parents screaming at the kids and anybody else who happens to be coming along aghast at how everybody else is behaving requires a lot of planning and forethought. It’s even more difficult if there are teenagers coming along too, as they’ll have definite ideas of what they want to do, and it probably doesn’t involve spending a lot of time with the rest of their family, which they’ll view as a ball and chain. That is, of course, if they wanted to come at all, and teenagers can be very reluctant to go anywhere with their family.

It’s areas like Devon which are the answer for this, as Devon holidays provide you with access to a county that is brimming with things to see and do. There are activities for people of all ages, so kids, teenagers, parents and grandparents will all be able to find something they enjoy.

Beaches are enjoyable for everybody, even the moodiest of teenagers, as even they can’t help but be calmed by the sun, sea and sand. Younger kids will love splashing about in the water or building sandcastles, and the warm sun and fresh sea air will do wonders to help adults relax and unwind.

The numerous activities available for holiday makers will also mean you can fill your days with visiting fun and exciting places, and everybody should find something enjoyable there. If it’s possible, you might even want to consider splitting up into two groups and spending your time in different places so that everybody gets to do what they want. Some people could even stay at base if they wanted to, and just enjoy Devon’s sunshine, or any facilities that the place you’re staying provides.

Of course, Devon also has a few big cities, so if anybody in your family wants to take a shopping trip whilst on holiday they’re well placed to do it. Exeter especially is a great city to wander around for a day, and even if you’re not interested in shopping, there’s enough to see and do to occupy you for the whole day, and plenty of great places to eat too. The cathedral draws hundreds of thousands of sight seers every year, and if you make the trip to Exeter to see it you’ll understand.

Several people pick their holiday destination for seemingly strange motives, but that make a lot of sense to them. One of these reasons is language. Some people only go on holidays to places where they know they’ll be understood. Although this may sound strange nowadays, when most people speak English, it starts making sense if you’re either not an English speaker and don’t have a big grasp of the language or if you’re travelling to a poorer country where people aren’t all that educated.

But when going to the Caribbean, be it on a luxury liner or a cheap Caribbean cruise ship, you would think that most people in the ports would be able to speak English, if not just for the constant inflow of tourists. But that isn’t always true. If in Puerto Rico and Havana (but not all of Cuba) finding someone who speaks English is easy, in the other islands of the Caribbean it can get a bit tricky.

All except one: Jamaica. A former British colony, like some others, it kept English as its official language, although the accent may sound a bit odd to begin with. And it’s a paradisical holiday destination like any other, with beautiful beaches lining up next to awesome cities full of history, and a very warm and welcoming people.

If a travel agent were to tell you that he’d book a trip for you to a holiday summer resort, with beautiful beaches ranging from large open beaches to stunning rocky beaches with impossible formations, a beautiful countryside, green and vibrant, and an active nightlife, complete with a warming people and excellent tourist facilities, could you guess where he was sending you?

You’re probably thinking something tropical like Thailand or Hawaii or perhaps a Mediterranean island like Ibiza or Santorini. But there’s an unlikely destination that fits in that description: the county of Dorset, in the South of England.

It’s true that the English summer isn’t as warm as those of places closer to the equator. But it’s also true that quality means more than just super warm weather. Dorset facilities are simply top notch, with the beaches being extremely well kept and the countryside is just stunning. Dorset hotel rooms come in a huge variety, and with excellent quality.

There’s really not much room for discussion when it comes to price even. Flights to England are super cheap if you can find a low cost carrier and book early enough, and a trip to Dorset by train or bus will by no means break the bank.
